D.I.Y GENERIC ANALYSIS

1.       What genre of music video is the text? The genre of our music video is Performance based indie pop.
2.       What subject matter and basic themes is the text concerned with?
3.       How typical of the genre is the text in terms of content? The text itself is relatively typical of the genre in terms of its content as it is upbeat and follows the conventions of an upbeat indie pop video with sharp cuts.
4.       What expectations do you have about texts in this genre? I expect sharp cuts, colourful lights, attractive artists, moving camera shots
5.       Have you found any formal generic labels for this particular text? Performance

8.       Find two examples where the text challenges the conventions of the genre?  The video has no narrative. Some sophisticated shots that would not be featured.

The relation to reality that the text lays claim to is the live performance gig setting, resembling a band that are either at a gig or jamming together.

The purpose that the genre serves is to entertain

Mode of Address

1.        What sort of audience was your text aimed at?
Scenesters: Replacing the recently demoted Hipsters – the scenesters encapsulate everything that Hipsterdom has failed to in recent years.
DIY'ers: DIYers are creative, tech savvy self-starters that bring culture to life for Tribes today – they produce music, promote club nights, start indie brands and create festival stages.

2.       How does the text address your audience? The text addresses the audience through its use of mise-en-scene and closeup camera shots of the artists.

3.        What sort of person does it assume they are? I think that they would assume that they would be semi-popular although they would be in the indie scene
4.       What relevance does the text actually have for you? Personally it bears semi relevance as I am actually part of the target audience. I find the video to be aesthetically pleasing.

                       A positive reception as it fits the conventions.
